"No matter what the object or event is, whether it is a star, a swallow, a Kwakiutl, a 'psychological phenomenon' the layman who confronts it does not confront it as a sovereign person, as Crusoe confronts a seashell he finds it on the beach."

Walker Percy in The Message in the Bottle: How Queer Man Is, How Queer Language Is, And What One Has to Do With the Other.

Q: What is Twitter good for? A: Mindcasting

From ...

Quote and Comment: "Defining the Form: Spreading the Meme"

Jay Rosen makes a very good case for Twitter -- assuming, of course, that you're not a crackhead (Chris Pirillo definition of Twitter: "crack for the distractible.")

Though I've not been a regular Twitter user, I can easily defend it's value. With intentionality it can be a powerful part of your personal information system.

Mindcasting. It's a good word.

Nearest Book Meme No. 1

"In every moment in every classroom, a choice must be made between control and discovery, between the familiar and the new, between safety and danger, between repetition and revelation. Good teachers, like good martial artists, understand that zone where the joy of illumination triumphs over the comforting but deadly illusions of the known."

Robert Inchausti in "Breaking the Cultural Trance." p. 12

Passionate Bloggers

For a number of years I've been beginning all my classes with a brief activity with an index card. I'll do the same with my Blogging class but I'll do it using Blogger itself. I'll be asking the questions one at a time -- so it may feel a little awkward -- but the only way I'll know is if I try it. So here we go.

You'll find out in a moment why I'm calling this blog Passionate Bloggers. :)
